Sneh Shah.

Founder of The Vertura Academy. He built the whole thing — the Foundation Programme, AI Labs and the school track — around one idea he kept running into at work: the hard part was never the technical skill.

Schools teach students what to think. I built The Vertura Academy to teach students how to think — a complement, not a replacement, for the academic foundation school already gives them.

What he saw before he started.

Sneh finished three internships before he was 22 — one in data science, one in AI and data science, one as a business analyst. Different companies, different work, and the same pattern in all three.

The technical skill was the part anyone could pick up. It was sitting free online, and the people around him had picked it up that way. What actually separated one person from another was whether they could reason from first principles instead of copying a template, hold a room when they had no authority in it, manage themselves when nobody was checking, and finish things.

Nobody had been taught any of that. Not in school, not at university, and not on the job — it was assumed you either had it or you didn't.

The offer he turned down.

He had a full-time job waiting, with a promotion guaranteed inside the first nine months. He said no. The role was a good one; it just pointed away from the thing he had decided actually mattered.

What he wanted to build instead was an education system that trains those practical and people skills directly, and that can change shape as the work changes — because the technical curriculum will keep being overtaken, and no institution is going to move fast enough to fix that from the inside.

The starting point was age 10 to 14, because that is early enough for habits to still be forming and late enough for a child to argue back.

How that shows up in the programmes.

Every session ends with something the student made, because he doesn't believe a child has learnt a concept they can't use or explain. Every student is measured on the Growth Index rather than handed a certificate, because a certificate told him nothing when he was on the other side of it. Every programme has an admission conversation, because a room of twenty where three people don't want to be there is a worse room for the other seventeen.
